HAARVI
The Hospitalized or Ambulatory Adults with Respiratory Viral Infections (HAARVI) study is looking at the immune response to respiratory viral infection and vaccination in both children and adults. Respiratory viruses infect children and adults throughout life. Infection is usually mild in children and adults, leading to a runny nose, coughing, and wheezing. However, infection can become more severe, especially in children, the elderly, and those with chronic diseases or a weakened immune system. The goal of this research is to understand the immune response to germs that cause these infections to guide the development of vaccines and treatments for children and adults.
If you or your child decide to join the study, you may be asked to:
- Complete an in-person or virtual (phone/Zoom) visit with study staff to hear more about the study and complete the consent form
- Bring your child to the research clinic to provide a blood sample or nasal swab
- Complete surveys about recent COVID-19, Influenza, or RSV illnesses and vaccine history
Each enrollee will receive a $25 gift card after completion of these events. Participants will also receive compensation for their time for any subsequent sample collections.
